达瑞斯·寇特瑞立，Darius Cottrell was born on a Sunday, December 7th, in the family home of his grandparents in Pineville, SC. Maude E. Callen was the mid-wife that delivered him. His first taste of the arts was in high school, were he performed as one of the characters from his book report in front of the class. In 1988, he graduated from St. Stephen High School.
