Samuel Joshua Sauls began playing the piano at age seven without any lessons. At age twelve, he took private lessons from the Pro Music Conservatory of Wilson, North Carolina and went on to play for his middle school chorus. He was accepted at the Arts Academy at Hunt High School in the 10th grade, but chose to attend Beddingfield High School.
