Greg Kean was born Greg Kean Williams in Oshawa Canada on 27 September 1962. His parents, Rex and Dorothy Williams immigrated to Canada from England in 1956 and have two other sons, Kyle and Sean. He moved with his family to Detroit at age 15, graduated from Bloomfield Hills Andover H.S. in 1979 and went on to Michigan State University that fall.
