It's an experimental documentary film about German capitalism and the history of various prominent German industrialists from the late 19th to the late 20th century. What makes the film most interesting is its use of contradictions between the soundtrack and the images. Very rarely does what one sees clearly relate to what one hears from the very dry narrator, who mixes historical facts, scandalous affairs and tabloid trivia without discerning one from the other, and jumping sometimes seemingly arbitrarily on the historical timeline. While this narrator demonstrates how interwoven and opaque the Capital is, the screen shows various sites from all over Europe, sometimes relating to economy or politics, sometimes not. The viewer has to create relations between what he sees and what he hears himself, often resulting in very intriguing connections, notions and questions. The film's director Gerhard Friedl committed suicide this year in July, this film was his only feature film.
