Jay Baruchel (Tropic Thunder, Knocked Up), Universal and Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films are teaming for Johnny Klutz, a comedy that, according to the trades, has been a passion project for the rising star. Rob McKittrick, writer and director of the Ryan Reynolds and Anna Faris comedy Waiting, has signed on to write the screenplay. Working from his love of physical comedy, Baruchel created the character of Klutz, a lovable loser who is impervious to pain. He paired with Red Hour in the fall, pitching the concept to Universal executives. Baruchel and Red Hour kept honing the character, trying to crack his story, eventually meeting with McKittrick who came up with a story based on the Klutz character, which put the project in gear.
