Set in contemporary Azerbaijan, Inner City follows the romance between a young student Arzu, who's dreams reach beyond the imbedded societal norms set for women, and her piano teacher, Rafael, a middle aged veteran of the Karabakh war, wounded by the society's intolerance towards his broken past.
