Nelson is 45 years old and has been an Air Force band trumpet player for over 20 years. He feels that he has achieved nothing in his life and wants to do something important but routine has always dissolved his desires. Work in the band is routine and generalized disinterest. Nelson struggles against the unprofessionalism of his peers. He feels that he is the best musician of the band but that he cannot be consecrated there.
