Through interviews with Korean War veterans, defectors from North Korea and their families, The Swim unveils the cruel reality hidden behind the beautiful scenery of Kuandian, undercutting what the artist views as a utopian fantasy projected onto individuals. The film culminates with the artist’s performance of swimming across the Yalu River to North Korea, accomplishing a minimal, highly condensed act of border-crossing.
