The second feature film by Mexican director and cinematographer Bruno Santamaría Razo, Things We Dare Not Do follows sixteen-year-old Ñoño as he plays and dances the days away amongst a peaceful island community on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. Yet his life of youthful innocence cannot last forever and, after violence suddenly shatters the island’s tranquil atmosphere, Ñoño decides the time has come to find out how his family feel about his burgeoning desire to dress as a woman. Things We Dare Not Do is an exquisitely photographed, deeply moving tale of lost innocence and the complexity of queer identity.
