The initial idea for Tonight's Homework was based on Abbas Kiarostami's cult documentary, HOME WORK (1989) that focused on challenge of primary school student's assignment at home. But since today, the students faced other challenges than their homework , so the filmmakers decided while making this documentary as a tribute to the Maestro's work, after 30 years, depict the main educational, social, economical issues of Iranian students today. In their preliminary research the directors came to realize that this was no longera significant issue for students, parents, and teachers. In other words, the issue of homework as a problem of the educational system has been replaced by greater and more significant challenges, such as the appearance of social class differences and its effect on students’ learning interests,disregard of parents in relation to their children’s education, a lack of planning by theeducational system to promote enthusiasm in students, and many other issues.
