The authoritarian turn in Poland threatens democracy and the independence of the courts. The government’s systematic campaign to assert political control over the judiciary has been met by condemnation at home and abroad. In January 2020 thousands of people, including lawyers and judges from Poland and Europe marched in protest against what they see as an attempt to dismantle the rule of law.
