Based on the acclaimed book by ecologist and cancer survivor Sandra Steingraber, Ph.D., Living Downstream is an eloquent and cinematic feature-length documentary following Sandra during one pivotal year as she works to break the silence about cancer and its environmental links. Steingraber is a bladder cancer survivor. Her aunt died from the same cancer. Her mother and other family members suffered from breast cancer. While cancer runs in her family, it doesn’t seem to run in her genes; she’s adopted. Their small-town, Midwestern environment is the one thing they have in common.
