For 310 days a Russian cosmonaut was left in space onboard the space station Mir. During this period in 1991-1992 the Soviet Union fell appart. When Sergei Krikalev landed the hammer and seal on his uniform had lost it`s political significance, and his native country had changed name, president and ideology.
