Ozhimuri based on a story by the renowned Tamil writer B Jayamohan, is set in Kanyakumari, a dot in the map of India, at the southern tip of the country. The district that was once part of the princely state of Travancore (now Kerala, India) found itself in Tamil Nadu one fine morning when the borders were redrawn on linguistic basis by the democratic rulers. The narrative deals with the lives of Nairs, who were one of the major communities who lived here. Traditionally Nairs followed matrilineal system under which the property was owned by the women in the family and passed through them.
